When done from a place of honesty and emotional vulnerability, I believe cinema can capture something as tangible as a surface, yet as fleeting as identity. This is especially the case for those whose whole identity gets recontextualized when they relocate to a different country —or more specifically, to a city like Los Ángeles.

Even in a society that is essentially pro-individualism, our identities are still interdependent. Through genuine connections —Daniel, the driver reenacting himself, and more briefly, Dulce, the café owner— and playfully acknowledging its representational quality, this autofiction transitions from existential distress to a newfound hope, in which the joy of filmmaking is finally reclaimed.
